In Moonbeam land, this seems to be the year for fashion shows. I manifested the idea for myself, last year– accessories are my claim to fame, but I’d also like customers to engage more with the wearable art garments I create.
Sometimes at art festivals it can be a bit challenging to encourage patrons to come into my booth and try on clothes. There’s always a limited amount of space, lots of distraction and although I sometimes make a point to create a private dressing room….well, it doesn’t work as well as when I have my own trunk shows in a restaurant with a private space to slip on the fun outfits. Complete with food and music….zee best!
My first runway show of the year was “Paint the Runway Purple” at Alberta Abbey in NE PDX. With a name like that, I was on it!
I had 8 looks with 8 dynamic, charming models who brought my designs to life…it was a terrific night!
As my garment work is generally one-of-a-kind, I don’t seek buyers who want a dozen of this and a dozen of that. Small boutiques are more my choice in that area.
The best is a direct retail shopping experience for my patrons, coming to my studio or ordering online.
I look forward to formulating some fashion shows with fellow wearable art designers where the chance to try on and purchase our unique designs after the show are fun and easy. Stay tuned or email/PM/Instagram/FB me if you, also, have thoughts about this.
This year I’ll finally do the Modified Style Fashion Show…right up my alley, reclaiming discarded fabric into something wearable and wonderful!
In the fall I’ll participate in the PDX Fashion Network Show, a benefit for Susan G. Komen breast cancer research.
Today I am gearing up for my fibre art studio at Grace Art Camp, as we study Japan. Just 2 weeks at camp this year, but I will enjoy it, as always.
Various art festivals coming up…check my calendar.
If you’re in Portland and want to swing by the studio, give me a call for appointment. I usually keep some stock here, happy to create your custom Moonbeam gear or help you reclaim your wardrobe! Happy Spring/Summer!
